As part of the TGA’s compliance management programs, we monitor for unlawful import, export, manufacture, supply and advertising of therapeutic goods. When non-compliance is identified, we take action in line with our regulatory compliance framework, which describes our approach to compliance, including how we encourage voluntary compliance and respond to alleged contraventions of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989.
The information below provides key statistics on some of our compliance and enforcement activities regarding therapeutic goods, supporting the TGA’s commitment to transparency and accountability in relation to our compliance actions and outcomes. Our TGA Compliance Principles 2026 and 2027 provide more details on key areas of focus for TGA compliance and enforcement activities across the next 2 years.

Important considerations when reading this information
The data includes compliance and enforcement activity related to the:
- unlawful advertising of therapeutic goods, and;
- unlawful import, export, manufacture and supply of therapeutic goods that are not included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), or exempt from this requirement.
See Managing regulatory compliance for more information on other TGA compliance programs.
Other important considerations:
- Further breakdown - We are unable to provide further data breakdowns of this information. For more information on compliance actions and outcomes see:
- Compliance actions and outcomes for information regarding compliance actions we may take.
- TGA Performance Reports for details regarding our compliance and enforcement activities across financial years.
- Media releases for compliance and enforcement actions.
- Timeframe - Data is split by financial year. Trends across financial years cannot be determined from this information as compliance focus areas change and data for incomplete financial year periods (e.g. the 2025-26 financial year) do not represent a trend or comparison to prior financial years. See the current TGA Compliance Principles for more information on our current compliance and enforcement focus.
- Digital platform advertisement removals: In the 2025-26 financial year, the TGA commenced work to expand our collaboration with digital platform providers, including major online retailers, to identify and remove unlawful advertisements from their sites. This work will enable increased proactive disruption of non-compliant advertising. As this is a newly expanded area of work, comparisons between the current and previous financial years is not an accurate comparison of TGA compliance action on digital platform sites. The additional activities include:
- requesting removal of entire user/seller profiles, which can remove tens or in some cases hundreds of advertisements in one action.
- requesting platforms apply content filters to prevent advertisement listings for specific keywords
- referring scam-related, non-compliant advertising reports to the National Anti-Scam Centre.
- Context - Quantitative data does not indicate the severity, risk level, or impact of individual cases.
