About listed medicines
Listed medicines are low-risk, non-prescription products. They include medicines with ingredients like vitamins, minerals, herbal substances and fish oil.
They must be included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) before supply.
Listed medicines are not individually assessed by us before supply. They can only contain low-risk ingredients and only make low-level health claims. As a sponsor (product owner), you need to self-certify that you comply with all the safety, quality and efficacy requirements that apply to your medicine.
An example of a listed medicine is a calcium supplement with bone health claims.
We can check any medicine listed in the ARTG that is on the market to make sure it’s safe, high quality and only makes approved claims.
You must meet certain obligations to legally supply therapeutic goods in Australia. This section contains guidance and information specific to listed medicines. You may also have to meet obligations that apply to all medicines and all products.
