The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) hosted the eleventh meeting of the Women’s Health Products Working Group (WHPWG) on 30 October 2025. The WHPWG is comprised of representatives from consumer groups, health professionals, industry, academia, and senior officials from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
The following topics were presented:
- Artificial intelligence (AI) software as a medical device with a focus on when software/AI meets the definition of a medical device and how these devices are regulated.
- Insight into usage and issues regarding in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) self-tests for women’s health biomarkers.
- Outcomes of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) cosmetic review regarding medicines and devices with a specific focus on the impacts for women.
- Overview of Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia’s (FECCA) work on Anti-Racism Framework.
- The health impacts and outcomes of Asherman’s Syndrome, in addition to future research in this space.
- Discussion on the Jean Hailes for Women's Health report on contraception survey data.
The next WHPWG meeting is scheduled to be held on 31 March 2026.
