Therapeutic sunscreens must be labelled and advertised in a clear, truthful, and accurate way.
Labels and packaging must provide essential information such as product name, Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) number, ingredients, directions for use, warnings, SPF, level of sun protection and UV protection.
Advertising must not make false or misleading claims. You are responsible for ensuring all communications comply with Australian laws.
We monitor compliance and can take action if legislative requirements are not met. You must ensure that your therapeutic sunscreen is labelled and promoted responsibly to protect consumers and meet your legal obligations.
You can find consumer information and the latest sunscreen news and alerts on our sunscreens page.
You must meet certain obligations to legally supply therapeutic goods in Australia. This section contains guidance and information specific to therapeutic sunscreens. You may also have to meet obligations that apply to all medicines and all products.
