The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) hosted the 13th meeting of the Women’s Health Products Working Group (WHPWG) on 16 July 2026.
The WHPWG is comprised of representatives from consumer groups, medical peak bodies, clinicians, industry, academia, and senior officials from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA).
Key topics discussed by the Working Group included:
- progress across the TGA’s national and international women’s health priorities, including recent engagement on health equity and women-centred outcomes;
- opportunities and pathways to support more equitable access to, and funding for, new technologies that address women’s health needs;
- the medical device pathway, from real-world evidence generation under the TGA’s Special Access Scheme through to inclusion in the ARTG;
- Cancer Australia’s update on the National Lung Cancer Screening Program, including its role in supporting earlier detection, equitable participation and improved outcomes;
- Medical device industry-led initiatives to strengthen women’s representation in medical technology and improve sector responsiveness to women’s health priorities;
- TGA updates on Zoladex, including discontinuation issues and an update on the new indication application, and the Black Triangle Scheme, which supports enhanced post-market safety monitoring by encouraging the reporting of suspected adverse events and increasing awareness among consumers and healthcare professionals; and
- An update on the implementation of Australia’s Unique Device Identification framework, including mandatory UDI labelling for high risk and implanted medical devices from 1 July 2026.
The next WHPWG meeting is scheduled to be held on 15 October 2026.
