Victorian fined for allegedly importing unapproved peptide

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued one infringement notice of $3,756 to a Victoria-based individual for the alleged unlawful importation of a peptide. The individual did not have approval or authority to import the prescription-only medicine, and this infringement notice has been issued following a number of previous warnings.  

The product is not registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), which means it is not approved for import into Australia without a written authority, and has not been reviewed by the TGA for safety or quality.

The TGA reminds consumers that decisions about prescription medication should be made in consultation with their treating health professional.

Individuals and businesses must understand their legal obligations prior to importing therapeutic goods. 

The TGA has produced information for importers and sellers of sports supplements.
