Infringement notices totalling $588,840 issued to three Sydney-based TSG stores and Jaradat and Sabbagh Group Pty Ltd

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued 38 infringement notices totalling $588,840 to four Sydney-based entities for allegedly importing 22 consignments containing a total of 379,600 nicotine vaping products.  

It is alleged that TSG Liverpool Street Pty Ltd, TSG Balmain Pty Ltd, TSG Chatswood Pty Ltd and Jaradat & Sabbagh Group Pty Ltd, attempted to import nicotine vaping products (prescription medicines) that were not registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods and did not comply with a relevant standard.

TGA laboratories tested samples of the imported IGET, GUNPOD and HQD branded disposable vapes and found they contained prohibited ingredients listed in the Therapeutic Goods Order (Standard for Nicotine Vaping Products) (TGO 110) Order 2021.

Nicotine vaping products which contain prohibited ingredients pose a significant public health risk.

The unapproved nicotine vaping products were intercepted by the Australian Border Force and will be seized and destroyed under advice from the TGA.

Unregulated nicotine vaping products are a growing concern in the Australian community due to their availability and increased use, particularly among adolescents and young people, with associated health risks, including nicotine addiction, nicotine poisoning, exposure to toxins, and serious injuries and burns.

On 2 May 2023, the Minister for Health and Aged Care announced that the Australian Government is taking strong action to combat the supply of unlawful vaping products.
