Professor Guy Maddern is the RP Jepson Professor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide and Director of Research at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health research at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He has been involved in the assessment of new technology in surgery for the past 24 years as Surgical Director of the Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures – Surgical, with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is currently Chair of the Health Technology Assessment International Asia Policy Forum. Professor Maddern provides expertise in the fields of surgery and gastroenterology.

Professor Hamed Asadi is a clinician scientist, dual-trained in Interventional Radiology (IR) and Neurointerventional Radiology (INR). He has multiple quaternary public hospital appointments, as well as university affiliations. Professor Asadi also possesses a strong technical background in electronics, computer sciences, and medical informatics stemming from previous professional experience in electrical engineering, advanced network design, and computer programming. He has focussed recently on advanced modelling and the analysis of clinical data supervising multiple projects in the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to optimise resource allocation for IR and INR services. Professor Asadi provides expertise in a number of different fields.
Dr Philip Bailey is a medicolegal specialist, general practitioner, remote medicine specialist and is the Founder and Director of WorkDoc Medical. Under this banner Dr Bailey provides critical medical services to FIFO workers in underserved regions. Dr Bailey acts as Company Doctor advising major industrial clients on remote medical injury management and occupational health services for both onshore and offshore platforms. Dr Bailey delivers frontline care in geographically isolated settings as a medical locum with hospital emergency department and senior medical officer duties. In addition to clinical practice, Dr Bailey provides medico-legal reports and expert advice for regulatory bodies such as AHPRA and the Health Ombudsman, particularly involving impaired practitioners and examination of 'best practice' professional standards. Dr Bailey has advised QLD health as Director of Medical services and contributed to the medical textbook 'Therapeutic guidelines'. Dr Bailey provides expertise in medico-legal and medical regulatory concerns, compliance, and general and emergency remote medical practice.
Mrs Brydget Barker-Hudson has scientific, legal background, mediation, arbitration and tribunal membership experience. She worked with traditional communities in PNG as a researcher for the Institute of Medical Research, then as an environmental scientist. After graduating in law, she developed legislation and intellectual property protection in agriculture in the NT. Mrs Barker-Hudson also provides a community / consumer perspective to the AHPRA Dental Board, and sits on the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Community Advisory Group. Mrs Barker-Hudson provides expertise in consumer health issues.
Associate Professor Peter Cundy is an experienced clinician/surgeon in Orthopaedic Surgery based at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, and private practice. He is a past senior examiner on Orthopaedic Surgery for the Australasia College of Surgeons. Associate Professor Cundy provides expertise in orthopaedics, biomedical engineering or biomaterials, epidemiology or biostatistics, human factors analysis and the manufacture of medical devices.
Professor Blanca Gallego Luxan is a Professor of Clinical Artificial Intelligence at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and an expert in AI research and education in medicine. Originally trained as a physicist, she has gone on to create computational models for diverse applications, including climate dynamics, environmental economics, bio-surveillance of infectious diseases, patient safety, evidence-based medicine, and clinical decision support. Professor Gallego Luxan provides expertise in the fields of epidemiology, biostatistics and artificial intelligence.
Dr David Gill is an orthopaedic surgeon practicing in Perth, WA. He is a visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at Hollywood Private Hospital, and Peel Health Campus. Currently, Dr Gill is a Board Director of the AOA, the Deputy Clinical Director of the Data Analytics Unit of the AOA, and the Assistant Deputy Clinical Director of the AOANJRR responsible for Upper Extremity Surgery. He serves as Chair, SOECAG and a member of the MDHTAC and CQRAG. He recently served as a member of the Evaluation Subcommittee of MSAC, and Shoulder and Elbow Working Group to the MBS Review Committee. Dr Gill provides expertise in the field of orthopaedics.
Professor Sam John is a biomedical engineer and academic leader specialising in neural engineering, brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), and medical bionics. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Deputy Head (Academic) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, where he leads the NeuroBionics Lab. His research focuses on developing next-generation medical systems that interact with the nervous system to diagnose, monitor, and restore lost function. This includes work on neuroprosthetics, implantable neural interfaces, and assistive technologies for people with disabilities. His lab integrates expertise across electronics, software, materials science, and neuroscience to create innovative therapeutic devices. Professor John provides expertise in the fields of neurology, vascular medicine, biomedical engineering and biomaterials, interventional radiology, medical devices software engineering, manufacture of medical devices, neural implants and neuromodulation.
Dr Anne McCready is a specialist anaesthetist with expertise in digital health, medication safety, and clinical governance. Dr McCready has held clinical and leadership roles across public and private sectors, including as Anaesthetic Lead for the integrated electronic medical record (ieMR) Project at Metro North Health. She has served on multiple advisory committees focused on medication management, perioperative safety, and health policy implementation. Dr McCready has a particular interest in the regulation of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and the safe integration of digital technologies in clinical care. Dr McCready provides expertise in the fields of anaesthetics, digital health and medical administration.
Dr Simon Moten is a specialist cardiothoracic surgeon with a full-time clinical practice in private and public institutes in Melbourne. He has held previous positions with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Surgical Science and Examinations Committee, and on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery. His interests are in the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of new technologies for advanced healthcare with a special interest in minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. Dr Moten provides expertise in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
Dr Bruce Seidel is a qualified engineer and an intensive care medicine specialist. He has experience in large multinational companies and has worked in a variety of hospital and pre-hospital environments, including the aviation industry. Dr Seidel’s daily use of medicines and medical devices for diverse patient conditions equips him with a broad skill set and extensive experience. Dr Seidel provides expertise in medical, surgical, clinical, and technical fields relevant to the committee’s functions.
Professor Bernard Tuch is a practising translational endocrinologist with a keen interest into integrating medical devices into clinical applications. With four decades of experience in academia, he has spent the past 15 years complementing this expertise by working in and alongside industry. He is currently a Director of the Australian Foundation for Diabetes Research and previously Chair of Living Cell Technologies. He is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University and the Founding Chair of the New South Wales Stem Cell Network. Professor Tuch provides expertise in the fields of endocrinology and cell encapsulation.
Dr Tristan Withers is a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Prince of Wales Hospital, where he provides acute care and contributes to departmental leadership in clinical governance and patient safety. In addition to his primary hospital role, Dr Withers is a Visiting Medical Officer at Sutherland Hospital, supporting emergency services across the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Dr Withers holds academic appointments as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney and a Conjoint Lecturer at UNSW Sydney. Dr Withers provides expertise in the fields of human factors analysis and emergency medicine.
Associate Professor Glenn Young is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist with 30 years in clinical practice. He is currently Chair of the Department’s Cardiovascular Expert Clinical Advisory Committee and a Member of Bellberry Ethics Committee. He is past President of the Electrophysiology and Pacing Council of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and continues to be active in professional education, including international teaching engagements in Myanmar. Associate Professor Young provides expertise in the field of cardiology.
Associate Professor Roshan Zeirideen Zaid is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She currently serves as Director of Public IVF and Staff Specialist at South West Healthcare. Associate Professor Z. Zaid is an Affiliate Professor in the School of Medicine at Deakin University, contributing to medical education and research in women’s health and reproductive technologies. Associate Professor Zaid brings extensive expertise in reproductive medicine, high-risk obstetrics, and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. Associate Professor Zeirideen Zaid provides expertise in the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology, human factors analysis, manufacture of medical devices, nursing, laparoscopy, ultrasound scanning, open and vaginal surgeries.
