Glute Master Pty Ltd is recalling all batches of their "-Maxx" series of products because they were supplied within Australia for therapeutic use, without being approved by the TGA and entered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). There are concerns about safe use of the ingredients that may be present in these medicines.
Products being recalled are all batches of:
Shred Maxx Male
Shred Maxx Super Strength
What should I do?
If you have purchased Shred Maxx, Shred Maxx Male, Shred Maxx Super Strength, Glow Maxx, Cli Maxx, X Maxx or GMax, do not use the medicine. Safely dispose of any remaining capsules and contact your GP or healthcare professional if you have concerns. Enquiries about the products should be sent to the supplier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the problem?
Products that make therapeutic claims, and that have ingredients such as Vitamin D or caffeine, should be included on the ARTG so that the TGA can review the ingredients, the claims being made and the directions for how the medicines should be used.
For example, Glow Maxx is noted on the label to contain 1000 micrograms (mcg) of Vitamin D per capsule (per day). Medicines in Australia require a prescription if they contain more than 25 micrograms of Vitamin D per recommended daily dose. This means a medical professional has assessed the patient before deciding what is safe for them to use. 1000 micrograms per day is 40 times this amount and, after prolonged use, could result in toxic effects such as vomiting and diarrhoea.
Glute Master Pty Ltd’s -MAXX products have not been assessed as required, so their safety and efficacy are unknown.
The TGA cannot give advice about an individual's medical condition. You are strongly encouraged to talk with a health professional if you are concerned about a possible adverse event associated with a medicine or vaccine.
