Metagenics NasoClear
Consumers and health professionals are advised that Health World Limited, in consultation with the TGA, is recalling batch number 80789 of Metagenics NasoClear 30 mL nasal spray (expiry May 2018).
Metagenics NasoClear is a complementary medicine product that combines a saline solution scented with essential oils.
It has been identified that some products from the affected batch may contain Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as golden staph.
Golden staph is commonly carried on the skin or in the nose of healthy people. However, particularly in children the elderly or immuno-compromised people, it can cause infections, ranging from mild to, in the most severe cases, life-threatening infections, such as pneumonia, meningitis or blood-stream infections.
Batch number 80789 has only been supplied since 24 June 2016 and no other batches of Metagenics products are affected.
As of 20 September, no adverse events relating to this issue have been reported in Australia.

If you have any Metagenics NasoClear, check the batch number located on the bottle label. If it comes from batch number 80789, do not use it.
Return it to the place of purchase for a credit.

Health World Limited has written to health professionals who have stocked Metagenics NasoClear, providing them further information about this issue, including details of the recall process. They are also being provided a patient letter to assist in communicating this issue to consumers.
If you have any stock of Metagenics NasoClear, inspect those products to see if they are affected by this recall. If any are from batch number 80789, quarantine those products and arrange to return them to Health World Limited.
