Therapeutic Goods Legislation Amendment (Standard for Therapeutic Vaping Goods) (TGO 110) Instrument 2024

The Therapeutic Goods Legislation Amendment (Standard for Therapeutic Vaping Goods) (TGO 110) Instrument 2024 is a significant amendment to the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 in Australia. 

It establishes a standard for therapeutic vaping goods, ensuring they are regulated and sold under specific conditions. 

The amendment aims to reduce the prevalence of smoking and vaping, particularly among youth and young adults, and aligns vaping regulations with the objectives of the National Tobacco Strategy 2023–2030. 

The amendment includes provisions for the importation, domestic manufacture, supply, commercial possession, and advertisement of non-therapeutic and disposable vaping goods, which are now prohibited. 

Vaping rates are increasing in Australia, and the amendment seeks to address the long-term health impact of vaping, which remains unknown. 

The amendment also expands the definition of 'therapeutic goods' and provides new enforcement powers for the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to regulate vaping goods within the lawful supply chain.
