Pharmaceutical company Seqirus has notified us that they will be discontinuing all strengths of their Benpen injection products progressively, starting with the 600 mg strength from 30 November 2026, due to commercial reasons.
Supply of these benzylpenicillin sodium injection products will continue until stock is exhausted.
Alternative Australian-registered benzylpenicillin sodium injection brands are expected to be available in the future. We will work closely with sponsors to monitor supply and support a smooth transition to alternative products where possible.
Benzylpenicillin sodium is an injectable antibiotic widely used to treat infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria and to prevent infections following surgery and other medical procedures.
For specific product details and expected discontinuation dates, go to About the discontinuation of Benpen (benzylpenicillin sodium) injection products.
Up-to-date information about these discontinuations will also be published on the Medicine shortage reports database, which can be searched by a medicine’s trade (brand) name or active ingredient.
