About COVID-19 tests
COVID‑19 is caused by the SARS‑CoV‑2 coronavirus. Three types of tests are used in Australia:
1. Nucleic acid detection tests (NATs)
Detect SARS‑CoV‑2 viral RNA.
2. Rapid antigen tests (RATs)
Detect viral antigen proteins.
3. Serology tests
Detect IgM and/or IgG antibodies produced after infection.
