We will have limited operations from 15:00 Wednesday 24 December 2025 (AEDT) until Friday 2 January 2026. Find out how to contact us during the holiday period.
Hospital supply departments, health professionals, carers and users should check that male urinal bottles are free of sharp edges, both inside and outside the bottle. Any cracks, chips or sharp edges may injure users.
Sharp edges are a defect, and if such defects are noticed, the manufacturer or supplier should be contacted.
This advice is being issued following the report of a patient receiving lacerations caused by a sharp edge on the inner aspect of a urinal bottle neck.
Reporting problems
Consumers and health professionals are encouraged to report medical device problems. (Urine collection bottles are medical devices.) Please refer to the TGA Internet site for more information on the TGA Medical device incident reporting & investigation scheme (IRIS).
The TGA cannot give personal advice about an individual's medical condition. You are strongly encouraged to talk with a health professional if you are concerned about a possible adverse event associated with a medical device.
