Advertising basics

Information about what is considered advertising, if advertising is allowed for your product and using the Advertising Code.

Our requirements for advertising therapeutic goods depend on the type of product you are promoting, what ingredients it contains, how it works and what you are intending to say about it.

Some therapeutic goods are prohibited from being advertised to the public. Other products have limitations placed on what you can say about them but can be advertised to consumers or health professionals.

The Advertising Code

The Therapeutic Goods (Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code) Instrument 2021 (the Code) works with our Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (the Act) to provide the legal regulatory framework (our requirements) for advertising therapeutic goods. 

The Code establishes the standards for advertising therapeutic goods to the public.
