Euro-Med Clomid tablets
“Euro-Med Clomid” tablets may pose a serious risk to your health and should not be taken.
“Euro-Med Clomid” tablets (dose bottle) are NOT related to the TGA approved Sanofi-Aventis medicine Clomid, ( 50mg Clomiphene Citrate; blister pack). The current medicine shortages for Clomifene / clomiphene 50mg tablets which are marketed in Australia as Clomid (Sanofi-Aventis) are still an approved alternative.
TGA investigations have shown that a number of people in Australia may have bought the counterfeit Euro-Med product online. This product can be identified through it’s packaging labelled as Euro-Med, and is in a bottle.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested the product labelled “Euro-Med Clomid” tablets and found that:
- The tablets contain the substance clomiphene at a strength lower than that described on the bottle.
The supply of “Euro Med Clomid” tablets is illegal as they are considered to be counterfeit.
This medication warning does not apply to Clomid (Sanofi-aventis; blister pack) which is TGA approved in Australia.
“Euro Med Clomid” tablets have not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy as required under Australian legislation, and the place of manufacture is not approved by the TGA.
Information for consumers
- Stop taking Euro Med Clomid tablets (refer to photo) and take any remaining tablets to your local pharmacy for safe disposal.
- The counterfeit tablet is round, light blue in colour and debossed with a cross on one side and unmarked on the reverse.
- If you have any concerns arising from your use of this product, consult your health care practitioner.
Action the TGA is taking
The TGA is working with the Australian Border Force (ABF) to help stop future shipments of Euro Clomid tablets from entering Australia.
If these capsules are found at the border by the ABF they will be seized and destroyed.
The TGA is advising consumers to exercise extreme caution when purchasing medicines from unknown overseas Internet sites. Products purchased over the Internet:
- may contain undisclosed and potentially harmful ingredients
- may not meet the same standards of quality, safety and efficacy as those approved by the TGA for supply in Australia.
