TGA Transparency Review Panel, Meeting 4, 13 April 2011

The Panel held its 4th meeting on 13 April 2011. At this meeting Professor Pearce welcomed the extension to 30 June 2011 of the timeframe for the report, as it will allow the Panel to give due consideration to the large number of submissions and issues.

Professor Pearce also provided an update of a meeting with representatives of state and territory Health Departments about their needs for and uses of information generated by the TGA. He also commented on an information meeting held with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) about their approach to the public dissemination of information about their work.

The Panel then developed the outline of their report and continued their consideration of the issues raised in submissions against the Terms of Reference.

The Panel noted that there were a number of issues raised that they did not consider were about improving the transparency of the TGA. They agreed that these would be clearly identified in the report, and where possible, the issues would be referred to the appropriate agency, or area of the TGA.
