Advice to physicians on Guidant pacemakers

Medical device hazard alert

Guidant Australia, following consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration, is issuing hazard alert letters to cardiologists on a fault with a limited number of their implantable pacemakers. This letter requests that patients with affected pacemakers are to be contacted by the cardiologist.

A Hazard Alert is the issuing of precautionary information about an implanted device where it has been proven that there is no stock to the recall and all affected devices are already implanted.

Persons wishing to determine if a specific device is included in the scope of this Hazard Alert should:

  1. Contact your Cardiologist;
  2. Contact Guidant Australia on 1800 245 559;
  3. Refer to the Guidant website to determine if your device is included in recent safety information and corrective actions issued by Guidant <http://www.guidant.com/webapp/emarketing/lookup.jsp>.
