TGA News Issue 33 (October 2000) - Brief notes

Note: The information in this issue of TGA News may no longer be current. Please check with the TGA before relying on the information on these web pages.

New look TGA News

You may have noticed that TGA News is shorter than usual. This edition marks a transition to a new format for the journal. Although TGA News enjoys a wide readership, not all articles are of interest to everybody. To make it quicker and easier to keep up with the important issues that affect you, in future most TGA News articles will be presented in summary form. If a topic relates to or interests you there will be telephone and email contacts and internet links for further information.

We will also be trialling an email notification process for the journal - instead of posting one to you, we would send you an email informing you of the new issue with a link to it on our website. To participate in this trial, please email us at info@tga.gov.au.

Legislation changes since November 1999

A variety of important changes to TGA legislation have been made since November 1999. In particular the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 has been amended to create an offence re counterfeit drugs and new provisions relating to the Special Access Scheme have been added to allow for adequate monitoring of access to unapproved therapeutic goods. In addition the Regulations now provide for the licensing of manufacturers of blood and blood components.
