Hans Wohlmuth is a pharmacognosist and currently the Head of the Department of Natural and Complementary Medicine at Southern Cross University. He joined the Complementary Medicines Evaluation Committee in 2008.

After completing training as a natural medicine practitioner in his native Denmark, Hans came to Australia in 1987. In 1998 he became the Foundation Lecturer in pharmacognosy at Southern Cross University, where he is also the Curator of the University's Medicinal Plant Herbarium and the co-founder of the Herbal Authentication Service, which provides independent authentication of botanical raw materials.

A former practitioner and Board Member of the National Herbalists Association of Australia, Hans has been involved in natural medicine for more than 25 years.

Hans is actively engaged in herbal medicine research. Current research interests include herbal authentication, chemistry and pharmacology of plants in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and medicinal plant use by practitioners.
