Therapeutic Goods Administration corporate environmental policy

February 2003

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has statutory Commonwealth responsibility for assessing the quality, safety, efficacy and ensuring the timely availability of therapeutic products in Australia. As part of its normal business operations TGA recognises the importance of implementing sound environmental practices throughout the organisation. This policy statement confirms the TGA's commitment to continuously improve its environmental performance.

The TGA Executive is strongly committed to working with staff, and their representatives to minimise the environmental impacts of the TGA operations.

Commitments

TGA is committed to integrating environmental sustainability and accountability throughout the organisation.

TGA will implement an environmental management system to ISO requirements.

TGA will adhere to all relevant Commonwealth environmental policies, initiatives and legislation and will meet the requirements of other relevant standards and codes of practice that applies to its operations.

Under these commitments TGA will also:

  • Maintain environmental parameters in its purchasing arrangements
  • Seek to reduce waste and implement recycling wherever practicable
  • Reduce the use of energy and resources wherever practicable
  • Provide an environmentally sound workplace and implement environmentally sound work practices throughout its offices and laboratories

As the TGA National Manager I commend this policy to all TGA staff. The TGA has an excellent record in energy and environmental management and with a strong staff commitment will ensure the objectives of this policy are met now and into the future.
